Revenue Up in July by 24.33%, but Misses Target

According to data from the National Board of Revenue (NBR), revenue collection in July showed a strong start to the current fiscal year, growing by 24.33%. However, despite the healthy growth, the total earnings fell short of the government’s target for the month.
NBR data shows that the revenue authority collected Tk 272.49 billion in July 2025, compared to TK 219.16 billion during the same month last year. However, the figure was Tk 28.62 billion lower than the month’s target of Tk 301.11 billion.
Among the three wings of the NBR: Customs Wing collected Tk 96.02 billion, an increase of 17.52% from last year. VAT Wing recorded the highest growth, collecting Tk 113.52 billion, up 32.45%.Income Tax Wing contributed Tk 62.95 billion, registering a 21.65% on this year.
Officials aim to achieve further growth through better monitoring, improved tax compliance, and higher import duties. However, they also know that to met the ambitious collection targets will be challenging for the upcoming months.
