Interim Government declares call off 10 Bangladesh-India project , More Under Review

The Local Government Advisor Asif Mahmud Shojib Bhuyain has expressed that 10 bilateral projects and agreements between Bangladesh and India have been stopped following a detailed review by the interim government. The declaration was made through a post on his verified Facebook page on Sunday.

According to his  social media  post, Asif shared a photo card introducing  the list of cancelled projects, type  by project name, signing year and type of decision. According to him, discussions regarding these agreements began after the interim government started  office, and the decisions were taken following a proper review process.

However, among the revoke   projects are several major Bangladesh-India initiatives, the projects are such as:  the Tripura–Chattogram rail link, Abhaypur–Akhaura railway line expansion, Ashuganj–Agartala corridor, Feni River water management project, and road and waterway development linked to port use.  Apart this,  other projects  remarked include Bangladesh’s financial cooperation for Farakka-related works, Sylhet–Silchar rail link, petroleum pipeline expansion, Indian Economic Zones at Mirsarai and Mongla, and a tugboat agreement with Indian defence firm Garden Reach Shipbuilders & Engineers (GRSE).

At that  photo card adviser  also noted that the Kushiyara River water sharing project has been already  suspended, Meanwhile the electricity import deal with Adani Power and the Ganges water sharing agreement are under reconsideration. Meanwhile, the long-discussed Teesta River water sharing agreement, which previously existed only in draft form, is now “under discussion for implementation.”

At this topic,  when question arose  by journalists towards , Foreign Advisor Touhid Hossain,  He declined to comment on the matter, saying, “I will not say anything about this today.”

The development marks a major shift in Bangladesh’s diplomatic approach toward India under the interim government, as several high-profile agreements from the previous administration are being reviewed or scrapped.
