Bangladesh Secures 20% US Tariff Deal: A Diplomatic Breakthrough

Chief Adviser’s Press Secretary Shafiqul Alam has added that Bangladesh’s successful tariff negotiations with the United States securing a 20% tariff as one of the interim government’s major diplomatic achievements. Speaking at a roundtable in Dhaka.
He credited the success to our Chief Adviser Prof Muhammad Yunus’ personal credibility in the US, National Security Adviser Dr Khalilur Rahman’s experience, and Commerce Adviser Sk Bashir Uddin’s market insights.
However Shafiqul Alam noted that, Bangladesh used its growing influence as a major global importer of cotton, oil, and other commodities as leverage during the talks. He also emphasized ongoing efforts to diversify export markets in Japan, South Korea, Brazil, South Africa, and the Middle East.
Calling Chattogram Port reform “crucial” for attracting investment, he added that improving logistics and efficiency could transform Bangladesh into a stronger regional trade hub.
