Fire at Airport Cargo Village Causes Tk 1 Billion Loss

A robust fire at the cargo village of Hazrat Shahjalal International Airport on Saturday caused heavy losses. According to the Bangladesh Garment Manufacturers and Exporters Association (BGMEA) loses are estimated at Tk 1.0 billion.
Faisal Samad Director of BGMEA gave the primary assumed of loses of one billion, while speaking to reporters about the scale of the damage, “We have witnessed an alarming picture inside. The entire import section has been gutted.
Moreover he added that the commerce adviser was present to visit the area and assured that import operations would resume immediately. Terminal 3 will be used temporarily for newly arrived goods to keep trade activities running smoothly.
In accordance to Samad, the adviser give instructions to release goods within 36 hours, reducing the earlier 72 hour timeframe. To bring speed in working committee will be formed with customs officials. There will be no weekly holiday on Friday and Saturday. For the sake of business.
The BGMEA delegation was led by Acting President Inamul Haq Khan, along with Vice President Mijanur Rahman and Director Faisal Samad. After the site visit, Inamul Haq read out a written statement before the media, while Samad answered questions from reporters about the extent of the damage and recovery measures.
