PM Says Govt Plans to Reopen of Closed Factories
The Prime minister of Bangladesh government has taken initiatives to gradually reopen factories that were shut down in previous years in a bid to generate employment for jobless workers.
Addressing a workers’ rally in front of BNP’s Nayapaltan office on the occasion of International Workers’ Day, he said authorities have been instructed to assess how quickly each factory can be brought back into operation. A meeting is expected to be held this week to review the progress.
The rally, organised by Jatiyatabadi Sramik Dal and chaired by its president Anwar Hossain, drew a large crowd. The Prime Minister arrived in the afternoon and was welcomed with slogans and applause. He greeted the gathering by waving.
He, however, noted that reopening closed factories alone would not be sufficient to address the country’s unemployment problem. Stressing the need for broader measures, he said the government is working to create employment opportunities both at home and abroad.
